We’re continuing our tour of wedding venues in the Sacramento, Sierra Foothills, and Lake Tahoe areas to help our couples find the perfect place to tie the knot. This Friday, a beautiful wedding venue in the Lake Tahoe area. The first time Andy and I photographed a wedding at PJ’s at Gray’s Crossing we instantly fell in love. Not only are the views stunning and unmatched, the sunsets showcase Mt. Rose, and are breathtaking as the mountain ignites in bright rose colors when the sun slips away in the evening. We recently sat down with Tahoe Mountain Club’s Director of Special Events,Dana Brooks, to talk about what makes this Tahoe wedding venue so special.
Feature Tahoe Wedding Venue | PJ’s at Gray’s Crossing
Tell us a little about PJ’s at Gray’s Crossing:
Nestled among the towering pines in Truckee CA, Gray’s Crossing is home to our most popular venue, PJ’s. Featuring a sophisticated design and romantic outdoor terrace, PJ’s is a one-of-a-kind venue with dramatic Mt. Rose vistas. Weddings take place overlooking the golf course with fiery alpine sunsets in the backdrop, and our beautiful bar is the perfect place to gather and celebrate with family and friends.
Is your venue Outdoor/ Indoor or both?
The ceremony site is outdoors overlooking the golf course and Mt. Rose, which can be tented if needed. The reception area is a sophisticated combination of indoor/outdoor space with fully opening sliding glass doors, and a unique open architecture offering panoramic views whether inside the restaurant or out on the terrace.
Does PJ’s at Gray’s Crossing offer year round or seasonal weddings?
Our wedding season typically begins in mid-May and runs through mid-October. However, we can accommodate intimate indoor winter weddings for up to 30 people.
How many weddings does PJ’s host each year?
PJ’s at Gray’s Crossing hosts about 15 weddings each year. Since this is part of the Tahoe Mountain Club we keep the number low to accommodate our private club members, and personalize each couple’s experience at our venue. We also have three other wedding venues connected to Tahoe Mountain Club, you can view more information on each of them on our website.
Do I need to be a member of Tahoe Mountain Club to have my wedding at PJ’s?
No, we’re open to our members and the public!
What’s included when couples book your venue for their wedding?
We include 5 hours of wedding time in the venue site fee along with additional time for setup and breakdown. plateware, glassware, silverware, house table linens and napkins, a fire pit surrounded by adirondack chairs, market lighting over the patio, outdoor heaters, natural wood ceremony chairs, 15×15 dance floor, facility owned tables and chairs, golf cart use, bartenders, servers, and a catering manager on site during your wedding. All items provided by Tahoe Mountain Club includes the labor to set up and breakdown these items.
One of the perks we offer for booking at PJ’s at Gray’s Crossing is a complimentary foursome (at Gray’s Crossing or Old Greenwood Golf Course) and discount group golf rates for large parties.
How many guests can you accommodate?
We can accommodate up to 225 for outdoor ceremonies and receptions. Indoor events up to 40 guests.
What makes your venue unique?
The venue sits above the fairways of Gray’s Crossing Golf Course with panoramic mountain views. The alpine glow over Mt. Rose is a perfect time for our couples to sneak away for some sunset photo.
The building was designed by Faulkner Architects, and we are proud to say it is a LEED certified building. Building green, and being environmentally conscience is something we are very proud of throughout The Club.
How do you help couples customize their wedding?
We have a list of preferred vendors to make it easy for couples to plan their big day. We also offer a complimentary tasting for couples, providing them the opportunity to meet the chef and talk about their wedding menu.
How far in advance should couples book your venue?
We recommend booking 10-12 months in advance. Some prime dates book over a year in advance, so it’s a good idea to contact us as soon as possible.
Tell us about your favorite wedding from last season:
I fell in love with a couple that booked their wedding three months out, Aja and Doug. With little time to plan, they pulled together a fun and relaxed, Tahoe inspired wedding. They had all the details that made the venue pop: gorgeous floral, wood rounds on the tables, natural runners, candle light, and rustic elegance. My favorite was their “ring bearers” who wore bear suits, which had everyone talking about how adorable they were.
What’s one interesting fact about your venue?
PJ’s stands for Peter Jacobson, one of the designers of the golf course.
What do you have planned for the future?
Every summer PJ’s hosts a Tuesday Night Summer Concert Series. This is a great time to get outside and enjoy Tahoe’s beautiful evenings. You can either make a reservation at the restaurant or simply bring your own chairs and blankets to hang out on lawn to enjoy the music. The summer concert series begins mid June and runs through the first weekend in September.
A little extra from Andrew and Melanie:
Andy and I want to add that PJ’s has become our favorite restaurant to stop for dinner when we’re in Truckee. After spending the day trekking through Tahoe, there’s just nothing like relaxing with a cocktail or glass of wine overlooking the sunset at Mt. Rose.
The first time we stopped for dinner, we were delightfully surprised by the diversity of the menu. With everything from gourmet sandwiches to their amazing Vietnamese street noodles there’s a little something on the menu for everyone; and once you try their signature Chipotle Margarita, then you’ll be hooked on this sweet little Tahoe gem.
